Privacy Policy

Effective October 9, 2026

This policy explains what information The Marketing Ref ("we", "us") collects through themarketingref.com, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. It also lists every cookie this site sets.

1. Who we are

The Marketing Ref provides marketing audits, strategy and consulting. We are the controller of the personal information described in this policy. Questions and requests go to hello@themarketingref.com.

2. Information we collect

Information you give us. When you submit a form, request a Flag Check, book a review or email us, we collect what you provide, such as your name, email address, company, website address and the content of your message.

Information collected automatically. When you visit the site we and our service providers receive technical information such as your IP address, approximate location (country), browser and device type, the pages you view, the page that referred you, and campaign parameters in the link you followed.

Cookies and similar technologies. We use cookies and browser storage as described in the cookie registry below. Analytics and marketing cookies are controlled by your privacy choices.

3. How we use information

4. Legal bases

Where the GDPR or UK GDPR applies, we rely on your consent for analytics and marketing cookies, on the performance of a contract or steps taken at your request when you ask for our services, on our legitimate interests in operating and securing the site and responding to enquiries, and on legal obligation where the law requires us to keep or disclose information. You can withdraw consent at any time; doing so does not affect processing that already took place.

5. Cookies and your choices

Outside the United States, analytics and marketing cookies stay off unless you accept them. In the United States they are on by default and you can opt out at any time. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, we treat it as an opt-out of marketing cookies. Your choice is remembered for 180 days, after which we ask again.

7. Who we share information with

We do not sell personal information for money. We share information with service providers that help us run the site and our business, under terms that limit how they may use it:

Using marketing cookies may count as "sharing" personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising under some US state laws. You can opt out through the privacy choices link above. We may also disclose information when the law requires it, or as part of a business transfer.

8. How long we keep information

We keep enquiry and client information for as long as needed to respond, provide services and meet legal and accounting requirements. Analytics data is kept in line with the retention settings of the tool that holds it. Cookie durations are listed in the registry above.

9. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or receive a copy of your personal information, to object to or restrict certain processing, to withdraw consent, and to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information and of targeted advertising. We will not treat you differently for using these rights. To make a request, email hello@themarketingref.com. We may need to verify your identity before acting. If you are in the EEA or UK you can also complain to your local data protection authority.

10. International transfers

We are based in the United States, and our service providers may process information in the United States and other countries. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses for these transfers.

11. Children

This site is intended for business audiences and is not directed to children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

12. Security

We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

13. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The effective date at the top shows when it last changed. If we change how cookies are used, we will ask for your choices again.
