First Principle
Marketing Rulebook
#
32

Sites must be readable by the machines that rank and cite them.

🚩 Interference
FP-2
The Violation
The Principle

Crawlers and answer engines cannot read, index, or interpret the site.

The call

Search engines and AI answer engines only know what they can crawl and parse. A site without clean robots rules, a sitemap, canonicals and structured data is invisible no matter how good the content is.

The Legends

In Action (the tape)

• No sitemap, or one that was never submitted

• Structured data missing entirely

• Duplicate URLs with no canonical tag

Owned — Homepage carries a stray noindex tag.

Earned — Coverage links to pages that return errors.

Paid — Landing pages blocked in robots.txt.

Analytics — Search Console shows pages discovered but not indexed.

AI — Answer engines cite competitors because they cannot parse your pages.

The Corrective Play
rule-32

• Clear blockers first — a stray noindex or robots disallow undoes everything else

• Publish an XML sitemap, reference it in robots.txt, submit it in Search Console

• Add a canonical tag to every page so duplicate URLs stop splitting signals

• Add structured data for what you actually are — LocalBusiness, Service, FAQ
