Users are not guided toward a primary action.
A page, ad, or piece of content without a clear CTA leaves the user with nowhere to go. One primary action per asset — every time — is the baseline requirement for any marketing touchpoint.
Hopkins built his career on the coupon, one clear action he could count. He also wrote, "The best ads ask no one to buy." The next step should feel like a service (a sample, a guide, an assessment), not a demand. See new Rule 43.
• Multiple CTAs
• Or none at all
Owned — Pages have multiple competing CTAs.
Earned — Social posts lack direction.
Paid — Ads don't match landing page actions.
Analytics — Funnel drop-offs unclear.
AI — AI content doesn't include a next step.
• One primary action per page
